Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway project on February 1. This significant project, which passes through Binh Duong province, holds strategic importance for the Central Highlands region.

The expressway will connect Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 to Chon Thanh town in Binh Phuoc province. This marks the first expressway linking Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc, and it will eventually extend to the Chon Thanh - Gia Nghia expressway in the Central Highland province of Dak Nong.

Spanning 59.2 km, the route includes 52.1 km through Binh Duong and 7.1 km through Binh Phuoc. The first phase of the project, now under construction, features a 4-lane scale and a total investment of approximately VND17.4 trillion ($574.5 million), with construction costs exceeding VND8.833 trillion ($354.4 million)

Implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the project is set to be completed within 36 months from the contract's effective date, and is expected to be completed in 2027.
