Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has called on Airbus to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in developing its aviation industry, transferring technology and exploring the establishment of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centers at Long Thanh and Gia Binh international airports.

The Prime Minister made the proposal during a meeting with Mr.  Wouter van Wersch, Airbus Executive Vice President International, in Hanoi on November 4, marking the European aerospace group's 40th anniversary of operations in Vietnam.

PM Hung said Vietnam's population of more than 100 million, rising incomes and major infrastructure projects, including Long Thanh and Gia Binh international airports, were creating substantial demand for aviation industry development and fleet expansion. These projects are also linked to the development of logistics infrastructure and special economic zones.

He urged Airbus to expand cooperation and pursue major projects commensurate with its capabilities and the scale of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and France, helping strengthen Vietnamese businesses and build a broader aviation ecosystem.

Specific priorities include accelerating aerospace projects with Vietnamese partners, promoting technology transfer, research and high-quality workforce training, and improving manufacturing capacity, safety oversight and flight operations.

The PM also called on Airbus to support Vietnamese airlines in implementing aircraft supply agreements and contracts to meet their fleet expansion needs and open new routes. He encouraged closer cooperation with Vietnamese agencies in the space sector.

Mr. Wouter van Wersch welcomed the proposals and reaffirmed Airbus's ambition to build a long-term partnership with Vietnam, extending beyond aircraft supply to developing the country's aviation capabilities.s

Airbus reiterated its strategic commitment to cooperation in commercial aviation, space, industrial manufacturing, technology transfer and workforce training, while seeking to expand collaboration in digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
