Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on US businesses to continue their investment in Vietnam and help the country engage in global supply chains, especially in the areas of science, technology, and innovation, the Government News has reported.
He made the call while addressing the Vietnam-US Business Forum on Technology and Innovation Cooperation in San Francisco, California on September 18 (local time).
The Forum was held by Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco, and the ASEAN-US Business Council.
Prime Minister Chinh affirmed that the Vietnamese Government stands ready to welcome all businesses to invest in the country as this is the best way for the country to move forward.
During the recent visit to Vietnam by US President Joe Biden, he said, the two sides elevated relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which came as a result of enormous efforts by the two countries and the two peoples, including their enterprises.
After nearly four decades of reform and integration, Vietnam has posted significant achievements, with GDP increasing to nearly $410 billion and the country becoming one of the top 20 economies in terms of international trade, the Prime Minister told the gathering.
He hopes that with a good foundation and an upwards trend in cooperation, enterprises from both countries will continue enhancing their cooperative efforts.
Vietnam is now focusing on implementing three strategic breakthroughs, including institutional building, infrastructure development, and human resources development.
Businesses from the two countries discussed investment cooperation opportunities, focusing on technology and innovation.
They proposed the two governments continue linking their countries’ enterprises in producing and applying technology, developing innovation, semiconductor technology, remote sensing technology, artificial intelligence, and big data, and training high-quality human resources for enterprises.
Prime Minister Chinh also witnessed a signing ceremony for cooperative agreements between Vietnamese and US enterprises.
