Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed ministries and agencies to urgently complete the feasibility study of the Lao Cai – Hanoi – Hai Phong railway project to ensure construction begins on December 19, 2025, as scheduled.

The Government leader made the request while chairing a high-level meeting on September 7 with key ministries and agencies to review project progress.

According to National Assembly Resolution 187/2025/QH15, the railway will span approximately 419 km, running from the border rail link in northern Lao Cai province to Lach Huyen Station in northern Hai Phong port city.

The project carries a total investment of more than VND203 trillion ($7.69 billion).

Land clearance has already begun across all localities along the route, paving the way for large-scale construction in 2026, with the groundbreaking ceremony slated for December 19, 2025.
