The Police of the southern province of Dong Nai have dismantled a cybercrime syndicate that operated through a fraudulent cryptocurrency exchange, MTC – Matrix Chain, deceiving tens of thousands of investors nationwide.

Although the cryptocurrency itself was worthless, the perpetrators promoted it with false claims of high potential and exorbitant profits, luring victims to invest nearly VND10 trillion (over $386 million).

Following a comprehensive investigation, on May 19, 2025, the Director of Dong Nai Provincial Police personally led a coordinated crackdown, deploying multiple task forces alongside the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security, as well as police units from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hung Yen, Binh Dinh, Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Bac Giang provinces.

Authorities arrested key ringleaders, conducted search operations at their residences and workplaces, and summoned several accomplices for questioning.

The individuals arrested include: Nguyen Quoc Hung (born 1984, Hanoi); Bui Thi Thanh Nga (female, born 1991, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi); Ho Long Tri (born 1980, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City); Dinh Huu Hay (born 1991, Hoai Nhon district, Binh Dinh province); and Than Van Hiep (born 1982, Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province).

The Dong Nai Provincial Police Investigation Agency continues its investigation, working to ensure further legal action against all involved.
