Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to adopt a new approach to completing the Power Development Plan VIII, in order to ensure energy security for socio-economic development in the context of the rapid development of the global energy sector.
The Office of the Government announced the conclusions of the Deputy Prime Minister at a recent meeting on completing National Electricity Development Planning for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, known as Power Development Plan VIII.
The master plan is important and must fall in line with socio-economic development following resolutions from the Party, the National Assembly, and the government as well as the country’s international commitments, he said.
It must balance different sources of electricity with reasonable electricity prices in line with development conditions in the country.
Roadmaps and energy transition must ensure balance and be in conformity with the development of science and technology, with advanced administration for proactive and flexible management to bring the most benefits to the economy and the people.
Consultancy and management agencies are responsible for reviewing and assessing the electricity transmission grid and progress in electricity projects, and for forecasting power demand for socio-economic development and people’s lives to ensure the feasibility of the plan.
The ministry was also instructed to study renewable energies such as solar power, wind power, and biomass electricity and to have a mechanism to develop rooftop solar power in areas that are vulnerable to electricity shortages.
The Deputy Prime Minister also asked the ministry to study and propose related mechanisms, policies, and solutions, including solutions to attract and mobilize resources for the implementation of the plan.
