The Ministry of Transport has responded positively to Binh Dinh Province's proposal for upgrading its Phu Cat Airport.
The proposed investment capital of more than VND3 trillion (over $118 million) aligns with the Phu Cat Airport Master Plan for 2021-2030.
The ministry supports an early study of a second runway, connecting taxiways, and other technical infrastructure to enhance the airport's capacity for civilian aviation operations while maintaining its military functions.
Phu Cat Airport, built during the war, in the 1960s and early 1970s, has resumed operation since 1985. Due to its age and limited runway capacity, the airport can only accommodate small aircraft.
The Phu Cat Airport Master Plan includes plans for a second runway primarily for civilian aviation, additional aircraft parking spaces, an expanded passenger terminal, and rearranged civil and military aviation zones.
