Vietnam exported around 4.5 million tons of rice in the first five months of 2025, earning $2.34 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
The figures represent a year-on-year increase of 12.2% in volume but a reduction of 8.9% in value. This sharp contrast resulted from a significant decrease in the average export price, which dropped to around $516.4 per ton, down 18.7% year-on-year.
In May alone, 1.1 million tons of rice were exported, worth $573.1 million.
The Philippines remained the biggest importer of Vietnamese rice in the five-month period, accounting for 41.4% of the market share.
Vietnam is currently the second biggest rice exporter in the world, following India.
Vietnam is projected to export 7.9 million tons of rice in 2025.
