The Electronics and Semiconductor Center (ESC) was officially opened on September 6 at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The ESC is a combination of the SHTP Chip Design Center (SCDC) and the International Electronics Training Center (IETC), which have both been operating at the hi-tech park.

Head of the hi-tech park’s Management Board Nguyen Anh Thi said the establishment of the SCDC and the IETC were important preparatory steps in promoting investment in the strategic industries of electronics and semiconductor circuits in 2023.

“The ESC aims to form a training center that can satisfy the demands of major investors as well as facilitate the attraction of international cooperative programs in the future,” he said. “The combination of the two centers is logical, since the two industries have a close relationship with each other.”

To develop the electronics and semiconductor circuit industries, SHTP will focus on encouraging investments and positioning the ESC’s role in the general development direction of these industries.

Vietnam aims to have strong domestic enterprises in the two industries, while selectively attracting FDI to serve the growth of domestic companies in these fields.

“A strong electronics industry would be impossible without the industries of electronics and semiconductor circuit,” Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha told the opening ceremony. “To develop these industries, it is necessary to train high-quality human resources and select the most scientific and effective solutions, which means promoting basic scientific research and understanding core technologies.”

“The government is committed to revising and supplementing laws on science and technology and education and training, and to pool resources for the development of science and technology,” he added.
