Chairman of the Soc Trang Provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Lau has assigned the local Department of Transport to conduct a feasibility study on the construction of Tran De Seaport in the Mekong Delta province.
The port has been added by the Prime Minister to a master plan for the development of Vietnam’s seaports from 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050.
Under the plan, the seaport, covering 1,400 ha, will be able to berth vessels of up to 160,000 DWT and handle 30-35 million tons of cargo a year by 2030.
Prime Ministerial Decision No. 287/QD-TTg dated February 28, 2022, approving the Mekong Delta’s planning for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050, stipulates that Tran De Seaport is to develop into a special deep-water seaport and take on the role of a gateway in the region.
Soc Trang province is now seeking investors in the project and offering a range of incentives. Investors will enjoy a preferential tax rate of 10 per cent for 15 years, tax exemptions for four years, and a 50 per cent reduction on taxes payable for the following nine years, as well as exemptions on land and water surface rentals for the entire leasing period, among other measures.
