State President Vo Van Thuong, his wife, and a high-ranking delegation left Vietnam for the US on November 14 to attend the 2023 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week and bilateral activities from November 14-17 at the invitation of US President Joe Biden.

The Asia-Pacific region and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) are important priorities in Vietnam’s foreign policy, which aims to accelerate and strengthen multilateral diplomacy, contribute to protecting and fostering the country’s security and development interests, and elevate its status.

Since joining APEC 25 years ago, Vietnam has made positive and active contributions to the forum, proposing numerous initiatives and cooperation projects that have been spoken of highly by member economies, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and regional economic connection, and maintaining its role as a leading economic connection mechanism in Asia-Pacific.

The Vietnam-US relationship has witnesses strong growth over recent times time, marked by the establishment of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the President Biden’s State visit to Vietnam in September.

The two countries have signed many cooperative agreements on economics, science and technology, education and training, and humanitarian issues, as well as commercial deals valued at over $10 billion.

During the 2023 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, President Thuong and APEC economic leaders are scheduled to discuss issues of overriding significance to trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, sustainable and inclusive growth, and enhanced regional economic connections and links.

President Thuong will deliver remarks and hold various meetings at the APEC CEO Summit, which is regarded as the region’s largest business event, with the participation of over 2,000 leaders from major groups in the Asia-Pacific.
