Progress at two metro projects in Ho Chi Minh City has been slow and both have now sought delays. The completion of Metro Line No. 1, Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien, is now delayed until the fourth quarter of 2023, with the start of construction on Metro Line No. 2, Ben Thanh - Tham Luong, not scheduled as yet and completion now postponed until 2030.
According to a report from the Hanoi People’s Committee, the timeline for completing the Nhon - Hanoi metro line has been delayed from 2022 to 2027, and the total investment required has increased by more than VND1.9 trillion ($80.6 million).
Three of four sub-projects in the first phase of the North-South Expressway project, which were to be completed in 2022, are currently behind schedule. Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has requested no further delays. Construction contractors and project management boards that do not meet requirements must be replaced immediately.
