The Hanoi People’s Committee has proposed that the government adjust the investment policy for the Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section of Metro Line No. 2.

Under the proposal, the total length of the route will increase to 11.5 km from the initial 8.5 km, including 8.9-km underground section and a 2.6-km elevated section.

The project will have a total of ten trains running instead of 14, as originally planned, and cover 51.37 ha of land instead of 49.06 ha.

Total investment will be increased to over VND35.58 trillion ($1.48 billion), or 82 per cent higher than the initial total approved in 2008.

The adjustments are attributed to changes in the project’s investment scale, increases in exchange rates and prices, as well as changes in policies and regulations on the management of investment costs.

Construction began in 2009 and has experienced several delays.

The city has also asked for the completion date to be pushed back to 2031.

According to the feasibility study approved by the Hanoi People’s Committee in 2008, the project was to be built in the 2009-2015 period with investment estimated at VND19.55 trillion ($814.5 million).
