The Philippines’ Department of Industry and Trade (DTI) has decided not to impose safeguard duties on High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) from Vietnam because the latter is a developing country with a negligible volume of imports to the Philippines, at less than 3 per cent of the total. The DTI also decided previously not to apply safeguard duties on Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE).
As of the end of June, Vietnam had exported 1.6 million tons of rice to the Philippines, or nearly half of its total rice exports, earning $760 million in revenue. It is forecast that such exports will continue to increase, as the demand for rice in the Philippines is rising.
