FDI attraction uneven in north-central region

Thanh Hoa province attracted $41 million in FDI in the first nine months of this year; one of the poorest results in the north-central region. Investment to neighboring Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, meanwhile, increased sharply. These two provinces have rapidly developed their industrial sectors in recent years. Ha Tinh has the Vung Ang Economic Zone as a driving force for development, while Nghe An has two or three industrial parks attracting investment.

Public investment going from transport to localities

Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai has signed Decision No. 1012/QD-TTg from the Prime Minister supplementing, adjusting, and assigning the medium-term public investment plan with State budget capital for the 2021-2025 period to ministries and central and local authorities in the third phase. The government has decided to cut more than VND31 trillion ($1.31 billion) in medium-term public investment capital in the 2021-2025 period from the Ministry of Transport, which will be transferred to seven cities and provinces.

MoIC report shows digital transformation yet to take off

The Digital Transformation Index (DTI 2021) report, released by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) on August 8, states that the digital government, the digital economy, and the digital society - pillars of DTI 2021 - have increased compared to 2020, but only 12 of the 89 ministries and provinces participating in the assessment had a DTI 2021 value of 0.5 or higher, or just 13.48 per cent, revealing that digital transformation remains in its initial stages.

Planning to proceed for new urban area in Long An

The Long An Provincial People’s Committee has just approved the task of planning the Tan My New Urban Area in Tan My commune, Duc Hoa district, at a scale of 1/2000. The Mekong Delta province’s new urban area covers more than 930 ha and targets a population of 80,000-99,000. It will play an important role in linking Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta provinces and in the distribution of the urban population between the province and Ho Chi Minh City.
