The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) will inspect TikTok’s activities in Vietnam from May 15 given its continuous and regular violations.

Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, Head of the MoIC’s Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information, told a ministry press briefing on May 5 that the probe will last until the end of the month.

The ministry will make a comprehensive assessment of the impact and influence of the cross-border platform on the community, especially young people.

MoIT announced major violations committed by TikTok in Vietnam that have created a breeding ground for fake news and caused economic damage and social instability and encouraged young people to imitate and follow negative and objectionable trends, distorting their perceptions and lifestyles and undermining the country’s cultural values.

TikTok began to develop strongly in Vietnam in 2019 with entertainment information. However, from 2022, it began to provide content that runs counter to the Vietnamese Party and State or that is harmful for children, according to MoIC.
