Transport ministry tightening control of overloaded trucks

Anh Tú -

More than 18,000 vehicles found to have violated regulations in 2022.

The Ministry of Transport has asked localities to bolster measures to tighten control over overloaded vehicles.

Inspections of over 114,000 vehicles in 2022 found 18,000 in violation of regulations, according to the Department for Roads of Vietnam. Authorized agencies revoked the driving licenses of 3,000 drivers and collected more than VND147 billion ($6.22 million) in fines.

More inspectors will be assigned to inspect trucks, especially those travelling from ports, warehouses, and railway stations and along roads with a huge amount of overloaded vehicles.

The ministry also directed localities to increase information provision to raise driver awareness about following traffic regulations.

Meanwhile, authorities in localities are to encourage transport businesses to sign commitments to not carry goods in excess of allowed capacity.
