Local telecommunications enterprises have created alliances to invest in building two new undersea fiber optic cable routes, known as SJC2 and ADC.
They are scheduled to be put into operation this year, bringing the total number of such cable routes exploited by Vietnamese enterprises to seven.
The ADC undersea cable route has a total length of nearly 9,800 km with a capacity of over 140Tbps and will help connect countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region. Total investment is estimated at $290 million.
The SJC2 cable route, meanwhile, has a total length of 10,500 km and a total capacity of 144Tbps. It is being built and operated by VNPT and its international partners and will connect nine countries in Asia.
The operation of the two new cable routes is expected to help increase internet connection capacity in Vietnam and meet demand amid recent problems with undersea cable channels that have seriously affected internet connection traffic from the country.
Vietnam targets having an additional 2-4 optic fiber cable routes by 2025 and 4-6 by 2030.
