Vân Nguyễn -

Vietnam is among Cambodia's three largest trading partners.

The Government News quoted the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance as reporting on October 15 that the two-way trade between Vietnam and Cambodia in the first nine months of this year reached $5.8 billion, an increase of 21.9% year-on-year.

During the January-September period, Vietnam was the second biggest importer of Cambodian goods, only behind the U.S., with $2.7 billion, up 33.8% against the same period last year.

In the period, Vietnam accounted for 13.8 per cent of Cambodia's export market share and enjoyed a trade surplus of $3.1 billion with Cambodia.

Cambodia mainly imported garment and textile products, construction materials, petroleum, plastic products and fertilizers from Vietnam.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade's Asia-Africa Market Department, the two-way trade grew by an annual average of 18.5% between 2010 and 2015, and 17% between 2016 and 2020, reaching $5.31 billion in 2020 from $2.92 billion in 2016.

The year 2022 saw a significant jump of 11% year-on-year to $10.57 billion in trade value.

Trade has been a bright spot in the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship, experiencing impressive growth over the past more than a decade and expected to reach $20 billion in the upcoming time.
