All five undersea cables connecting Vietnam with the world have partly or wholly broken down, according to an internet services provider in the country.
The SMW3 cable is the last among the five cables to encounter a problem on its segment connecting with Singapore.
The 39,000-km cable connects Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe. It is the oldest cable accessing Vietnam and will be decommissioned next year.
Earlier, the AAG and APG cables suffered serious failures and are now completely unable to carry internet traffic. Two others, IA and AAE-1, also experienced breakdowns and are only partly functional.
However, Vietnamese service providers said the failure of the five cables will not have a major impact on the speed of internet connections between the country and the world.
