Upgrades to railway stations proposed to boost cargo transport

Thi Nguyễn -

Investment of $18.5 million proposed to upgrade two stations in Vietnam’s south and north.

The Vietnam Railway Corporation has proposed the Ministry of Transport invest over VND445 billion ($18.5 million) in upgrading the Song Than cargo station in southern Binh Duong province and the Cao Xa cargo station in northern Hai Duong province.

Song Than is the biggest cargo station in Vietnam’s south and one of six international stations in Vietnam serving imports and exports between the country and China.

The upgrades are expected to meet the rising demand for inter-provincial cargo transport and to link with the Song Than Industrial Park.

Cao Xa station, meanwhile, is also located close to industrial parks but currently only serves domestic cargo transport. There is growing demand for international transport from industrial parks, and the upgrade would enable it to serve both domestic and international cargo transport.

Both stations have deteriorated, according to the Corporation.
