US enterprises plan to invest $8bln in clean energy in Vietnam

There are 15 US enterprises that hope to invest some $8 billion in clean energy in Vietnam, according to US Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Mr. Jose W. Fernandez, who is paying a visit to Vietnam.

The information was revealed at a meeting between Mr. Fernandez and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on January 25, the Government News has reported.

Mr. Fernandez affirmed that the US will promote cooperation with Vietnam in clean energy transition and essential minerals.

He also noted that it is necessary to tap Vietnam’s huge potential in semiconductors and the US will continue supporting Vietnam to develop a semiconductor ecosystem, including cooperation in human resources training and promoting semiconductor trading.

He proposed organizing dialogue between the two sides on these important economic sectors.

Prime Minister Chinh applauded his guest’s proposals and noted that Vietnam is implementing a program to train 50,000-100,000 high-quality human resources in the field of semiconductors; completing legal foundations for the renewable energy sector; and completing planning in the field of rare earths, contributing to creating favorable conditions to attract investment in developing those fields.

He proposed that the US continue expanding cooperation in all fields, including emerging areas such as innovation, AI, green transition, and semiconductors.
