The US Department of Commerce (DOC) has issued a notice extending the deadlines for investigation determinations from an inquiry into wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam, the Trade Remedies Authority of Vietnam (TRAV) has said.

According to TRAV, DOC is expected to issue a final determination on October 2.

Regarding allegations of circumventing US trade remedy measures, DOC will extend the time limit for issuing preliminary and final determinations to October 16, 2023 and January 15, 2024.

Earlier, on March 17, 2023, DOC issued a preliminary determination on product investigations into wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam.

It determined that items that had doors, drawer fronts, and wooden frames produced in China and then assembled in Vietnam and combined with other components made in Vietnam are subject to trade remedy duties originally levied on Chinese wooden cabinets.

Meanwhile, regarding other products with different parts produced in China and combined with certain components made in Vietnam, there is sufficient information to make a conclusion or they are not subject to duties imposed on Chinese items.

Since April 2020, the US has imposed anti-dumping duties ranging from 4.37 to 262.18 per cent and anti-subsidy duties from 13.33 to 293.45 per cent on wooden cabinets originating from China.

On May 24 and June 7, 2022, respectively, it initiated investigations into the product scope and the alleged circumvention of trade remedy duties on wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam.
