U.S. pledges to support Vietnam in becoming one of the largest digital economies in the world

At the AWS Cloud Day Vietnam 2025, held in Hanoi on September 18,  AWS released the “Unlocking Vietnam’s AI Potential” study, conducted by AWS in collaboration with Strand Partners.

According to the study, most Vietnamese businesses are still using AI for basic tasks such as process optimization and efficiency improvement. Around 74% of companies remain in the exploratory phase, using AI mainly to enhance workflows. Only 35 per cent of startups and 11 per cent of large enterprises that have adopted AI are building entirely new AI-driven products with AI.

This presents an opportunity for Vietnam to unlock greater economic potential by combining the agility and innovation of startups with the scale and resources of enterprises to accelerate and deepen Vietnam’s AI adoption.

Speaking at the event, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper said that by investing in Vietnam, by holding events like AWS Cloud Day Vietnam , and by being here showed how American firms can help to accelerate Vietnam's digital economy, promote cybersecurity and provide the tools. 

According to the Ambassador, cloud technology not only enhances efficiency and scalability for businesses, but also offers transformative benefits to societies and families by underpinning breakthroughs in areas like AI, advanced manufacturing, e commerce and financial services and so trusted. Cloud and data center services are putting the Vietnam's future role as a leader in global digital economy. In particular, the center of digital transformation requires to be safe and secure, and secure. 

In addition, human resource is going to be key to Vietnam's digital transformation. As technology is only as powerful as the people who design, deploy and ultimately use it.

The Ambassador also highly appreciated efforts of American companies like AWS as a neutral role in Vietnam digital transformation, providing quality infrastructure and solutions that empower startups, small businesses, large enterprises, government institutions and creators and entrepreneurs. On the other hand, Vietnam developers, startups, ecommerce companies, are all leveraging AWS cloud infrastructure to rapidly scale innovate without the heavy front end burden of capital cost.

AWS is also investing in workforce development and training programs that help to build Vietnam's digital skills base in cloud computing and AI. "We are strongly behind AWS and its efforts and the efforts by other American companies here in Vietnam to support Vietnam digital transformation," the Ambassador affirmed. "We're committed to working with companies like AWS to promote cybersecurity and ensure that Vietnam's networks and cloud are safe and securing."

In July, Vietnam and U.S. celebrated the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship. Ambassador  Knapper said that this exemplifies the US commitment for the next 30 years to Vietnam's growth, to Vietnam's transformation in the role of great American companies like AWS in making this happen, ensuring that Vietnam has the human resources and other resources it needs to transform its economy.

"The US and our great companies are here with you, here with Vietnam to make things happen," the Ambassador added. "We're here to celebrate the role that US overall is playing in support of Vietnam hold aspirations over the next 20 years, to be a digital economy, to be a high tech economy, a high value economy. We stand shoulder to shoulder with you as you aspire to be one of the great entrepreneurial and digital economies in the world."

On the business side, Mr. Eric Yeo, Country General Manager, AWS Vietnam, said that Vietnam has the right tools and the ambition to lead in AI. "We encourage policymakers and industry leaders to take action to unlock Vietnam’s AI potential across both startups and large enterprises, by: boosting digital skills training; providing clarity in regulation and adopting a pro-growth approach; and finally by modernizing the public sector technology," he added. "AI is the biggest opportunity since cloud computing, and possibly since the internet. We look forward to collaborating with governments, businesses, and startups to unlock Vietnam’s AI potential.
