Vietnamese agricultural products have been exported to nearly 200 countries and territories, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan has said.
Addressing the recent G20 Agriculture Ministerial Meeting in India, Minister Hoan said the country’s agriculture sector has proven its role and position in socio-economic development, contributing to both national and global food security.
Vietnam earned over $53 billion last year from exporting agriculture, forestry, and fisheries products, ranking it 15th in the world.
Minister Hoan called for G20 member countries and the international community to join hands in handling global issues and to pay more attention to the transformation of a sustainable food system.
He suggested measures such as assisting developing nations, including Vietnam, to gain access to advanced scientific and technological resources for green and low-emissions agricultural development, while ensuring food safety and nutrition; and providing technical assistance and capital to invest in the development of agricultural infrastructure, serving both production and rural economic development while promoting responsible investment in agriculture.
He also recommended enhancing the capacity for the international integration of the agricultural system so that the potential of free trade agreements and international commitments can be maximized, and creating a multilateral forum to facilitate global agricultural trade, prevent disruptions to agricultural supply chains, and guarantee global food security.
In March, the Vietnamese Government issued a “National Action Plan to Transform a Transparent, Responsible, and Sustainable Food System in Vietnam by 2030”.
