Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto have agreed to accelerate negotiations on an agreement on rice trade to ensure Indonesia's food security.

The agreement was reached during the pair's meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 7.

The two leaders reaffirmed their intention to open their markets more widely to each other's goods. PM Chinh said he would direct Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade to work closely with Indonesian counterparts to facilitate market access and promote bilateral trade.

PM Chinh proposed the two countries to work together to formulate an action plan to implement the comprehensive strategic partnership for the period 2025–2030. He also emphasized the need to boost cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, agriculture, and new sectors including the digital economy, green transition and energy.
