Speaking at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on May 23, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai proposed 5 important acts to promote the development of the agricultural sector and global food production.

Firstly, there is a need for a holistic, multi-targeted approach towards a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable global food system.

Secondly, strengthen international cooperation and multilateralism and promote the role of international organizations to solve problems related to global food security, in which it is necessary to ensure the food supply chain, remove trade barriers on food, provide financial support to developing countries, and promote the tripartite cooperation model that Vietnam has effectively deployed with African and Latin American countries.

Thirdly, promote an all-people approach, ensure a fair food production transition, and consider the interests of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

Fourthly, build an agricultural ecosystem with the participation of and coordination of actions by all stakeholders.

Fifthly, innovate thinking and create new motivations to promote the development of agriculture and food production, especially the application of Industry 4.0, linking innovation networks.

Deputy Prime Minister Khai called for international cooperation in strengthening resilience and adaptability to climate change in the Mekong Delta, to contribute to national and regional food security. He also spoke about Vietnam building low-carbon agriculture that is “green - ecological - sustainable” and revolving around three pillars: “ecological agriculture”, “a modern countryside”, and “smart farmers”.
