Vietnam to have 1,000 urban areas by 2025

Urban areas projected to account for some 75% of national GDP by 2025.

Vietnam has targeted having 1,000 urban areas by 2025 and 1,200 by 2030, according to the Ministry of Construction.

It has issued an action plan to implement a Politburo resolution on urban planning, construction, management, and development by 2030 and vision to 2045.

The urbanization rate is to be at least 45 per cent by 2025 and over 50 per cent by 2030.

The average per capita floor area in urban areas will be at least 28 sq m by 2025 and 32 sq m by 2030.

Broadband internet coverage will extend to more than 80 per cent of urban households by 2025, and target all within the following five years.

In terms of economy, urban areas are projected to make up some 75 per cent of national GDP by 2025 and about 85 per cent by 2030.

By 2045, Vietnam aims to have at least five international-standard urban areas connected to regional and global networks.
