The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment held a conference on December 15 to announce the Master Plan for Sustainable Exploitation and Utilization of Coastal Resources for the period 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, reported the national radio broadcaster Voice of Vietnam.

The conference was attended by Mr. Do Duc Duy, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, along with representatives from ministries, government agencies and sectors; and leaders from 28 coastal provinces and cities; and experts from international organizations in Vietnam.

On October 7, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Decision No 1117 approving the Master Plan. The implementation of this plan aims to develop Vietnam's coastal areas into vibrant economic and cultural hubs, acting as gateways that connect mainland and maritime development, and serve as a solid foundation for further marine ventures.

The Master Plan also serves as a basis for refining the legal framework, enhancing the integrated management of marine resources and the environment, and strengthening national defense and security at sea, ultimately contributing to making Vietnam a strong maritime nation, rich from the sea.

Minister Do Duc Duy urged ministries, sectors, central agencies, and localities to promote the plan’s implementation through communication and dissemination efforts. He also called for a proactive review and update of related provincial planning content to ensure uniformity and consistency in state management. Additionally, he emphasized the need to prioritise resources for tasks and projects to effectively implement the Master Plan.

"This is a multi-sectoral plan that rationally allocates space for the development of various industries and sectors of our country's economy. It is also an important legal tool for managing, exploiting, and using resources reasonably and effectively while protecting the environment and ecosystems of Vietnam's coastal areas," he said.
