The VinCSS Internet Security Services JSC introduced its automated deployment and security assurance platform for IoT devices, “VinCSS IoT FDO”, at the 9th FIDO Seminar in Japan on December 9, hosted by FIDO Alliance. The platform was developed based on the international FIDO Device Onboarding standards.

International standards for secure and efficient IoT device onboarding

According to economic analysts, the global market size of the Internet of Things (IoT) is predicted to reach $2.5 trillion by 2029, posting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26 per cent (Fortune Business Insights). However, such bounding growth is synonymous with increasing security risks in the IoT device deployment process. Kaspersky announced that more than 1.5 billion cases of data leaks from IoT devices were reported in 2021, an increase of 639 million cases compared to 2020.

Besides cyber vulnerabilities, major corporations and mega projects also face issues regarding the cost and complexity of deploying IoT devices. Various enterprises have been attempting to apply automation processes even though they are yet to be certified as standard, causing issues while in use and increasing the expense of deployment.

Given the context, FIDO Alliance decided to establish the IoT Technical Working Group (IoT TWG) with the participation of world-renowned experts from ARM, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Google, Intel, Infineon, and Qualcomm. After two years of research, it published FIDO Device Onboarding (FDO), featuring applicable standards for the IoT industry regarding automated, safe, and efficient device deployment.

Since the launch in 2021, a considerable number of companies around the world, such as Intel, have embarked on applying the standards. FDO opens up opportunities to develop exceptionally and sustainably in the IoT industry, but the application of the standards is not a simple matter because it requires that companies nurture teams of product development experts with in-depth technical knowledge.

In the less than a year since the birth of FDO, the Vingroup JSC developed the VinCSS IoT FDO platform complying with FDO standards. This paved the way for the company to commercially provide the platform and help businesses optimize efficiency in the safe deployment of an IoT device.

On December 9, VinCSS officially introduced the VinCSS IoT FDO platform in Japan, within the 9th FIDO Seminar in Tokyo, hosted by FIDO Alliance. The platform is among the few solutions complying with FDO standards to be commercialized in the global market. The launch of the platform has attracted the attention of business representatives and experts in strong authentication technology, IoT, and information technology.

“Since it joined FIDO Alliance in 2018, VinCSS has been actively engaged throughout the working groups and also rapidly released a series of FIDO Certified products,” said Mr. Andrew Shikiar, Operations Director at FIDO Alliance. “This sets the stage for VinCSS to be a powerful driver for the adoption of FIDO authentication in Vietnam and beyond, as FIDO standards help enterprises of all sizes reduce their reliance on passwords. We are pleased with VinCSS’s leadership in the region and look forward to their ongoing contributions to the FIDO Alliance community.”

“As a startup aiming to provide products and services that ensure security in digital life, VinCSS has invested heavily in R&D over the past four years,” Mr. Do Ngoc Duy Trac, CEO of VinCSS, told the launch. “The VinCSS IoT FDO platform is the next step in the strategy to foster wider, more diverse applications of strong passwordless authentication technology under FIDO2 standards in other fields of potential including IoT security and automotive security. VinCSS is attempting to further expand its cooperation in market development, co-research and development, and technology integration with various international partners.”

Since August, VinCSS has also cooperated with Pavana to integrate FDO technology to create the world’s most secure commercial camera products. It also received the Best Practice Award 2022 from Frost & Sullivan, recognizing it as the leading enterprise in the passwordless authentication industry in Southeast Asia.
