Vietnam’s total retail sales of consumer goods and services in the first half of 2024 were estimated at over VND3 quadrillion ($121.7 billion), up 8.6% compared to the same period last year, figures from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) show.
Of which, the total retail sale of goods reached nearly VND2.4 quadrillion ($94.3 billion), up 7.4% year-on-year.
Revenue from accommodation and catering services increased by 15.2% year-on-year to VND356.4 trillion ($14 billion) during the six-month period, while tourism and travel services was up 37.1% to VND29.4 trillion ($1.15 billion).
Localities posting increases in the retail sales of goods included northern Quang Ninh province, with 9.5%, northern Hai Phong city 9%, central Da Nang city 7.8%; Mekong Delta Can Tho city 7.6%, Hanoi 6.6%, and Ho Chi Minh City 6.3%.
In the second quarter, total retail sales of consumer goods and services amounted at over VND1.55 quadrillion ($60.9 billion), a quarter-on-quarter rise of 1.2% and year-on-year growth of 8.8%.
