2022 was a successful year for Vietnam’s agricultural sector despite the many challenges, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The ministry announced that the agricultural sector achieved all goals set for last year, including growth of 3.36 per cent; the highest for many years.
Animal husbandry and cultivation grew 2.88 per cent, forestry 6.13 per cent, and fisheries 2.88 per cent. Forest coverage reached 42.02 per cent of the country’s total area.
More than 73 per cent of communes around the country met the criteria for new-style rural areas.
The agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector posted a new export record in 2022 thanks to the diversification of markets and products. Turnover topped $53 billion, with a trade surplus of $8.5 billion, up 30 per cent year-on-year.
Notably, fishery exports reeled in nearly $11 billion, a 20-year high since Vietnam joined the international market. Records were seen in shrimp, tra fish (pangasius) and tuna exports, with about $4.2 billion, $2.4 billion, and $1 billion in revenues, respectively.
The sector had eleven groups of products posting export turnover of over $1 billion and seven over $3 billion. The latter were wood and wooden products, with $10.92 billion, shrimp $4.33 billion, coffee $3.94 billion, rice $3.49 billion, fruit and vegetables $3.34 billion, rubber $3.31 billion, and cashew nuts $3.07 billion.
