Vietnam raked in $5.7 billion from exporting 9 million tons of rice in 2024, setting a new record in terms of both value and volume, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The figures represent a year-on-year increase of 11% in volume and 24% in value.
In December alone, rice export reached over 520,000 tons, worth $390 million.
The Philippines remaining the biggest importer with 3.6 million tons, accounting for 40% of Vietnam’s total rice export.
The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap topped the country's 63 centrally-run cities and provinces in rice export, accounting for 15.2% and 15.3% of the total volume and value, respectively.
The average export price in 2024 also marked the highest rate so far at over $600 per ton.
