Some 20 million tons of cargo have been transported via Vietnam-Cambodia waterway routes since a waterway transportation agreement between the two countries took effect in 2011, according to the Vietnam Inland Waterway Administration.
In the first two months of this year, 150,000 tons of cargo were transported.
In particular, the volume of containers transported via the routes has increased 20 per cent each year, reaching nearly 350,000 TEUs in 2021 and over 417,000 TEUs in 2022.
An estimated 1.3 million passengers have also been transported via the routes since 2011.
The Administration said transportation potential between the two countries remains huge.
Two-way trade between Vietnam and Cambodia hit $10.57 billion in 2022, up 11 per cent compared to the previous year.
Vietnam is Cambodia’s third-largest trade partner, following China and the US. It currently has 205 investment projects in Cambodia, with total registered investment capital of $2.94 billion.
