Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended a breaking ground ceremony for a social housing project for workers in the northern province of Bac Giang on June 16.
Covering a total area of some 12.6 ha, the project consists of 16 20-story apartment buildings.
Total investment is estimated at nearly VND5 trillion ($212.5 million) and some 7,000 apartments will be provided for over 20,000 local workers.
In the first stage, 2,500 apartments will be delivered by the end of March 2024, while more than 1,500 apartments will be built and handed over by the fourth quarter of 2024 in the second stage.
Speaking at the breaking ground ceremony, Prime Minister Chinh asked Bac Giang and localities to continue allocating resources and land for social housing projects.
Financial institutions, especially the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies, must create favorable conditions for low-income earners and workers in industrial parks to access capital and purchase or rent social housing.
He called on departments, localities, and businesses to join hands and fulfill the goal of building at least a million social housing units for low-income earners and workers in industrial parks by 2030.
