The city has issued regulations to shorten the time for granting construction permits to investors, facilitating businesses to participate in the development of social housing.
The country currently has 3,297 social and commercial housing projects and land plots in the pipeline, with the potential to supply around 5.9 million housing units.
Among one million social housing units by 2030 nationwide, as projected by the Government, the new city of Can Tho (which comprised former Can Tho city and Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces) has to contribute 16,900 units.
Commercial and social housing development must go hand in hand, supported by appropriate regulations and breakthrough solutions to expand social housing supply, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Four ongoing projects—totaling 2,874 units—are expected to be completed by the end of 2025, ensuring the city meets its social housing target for the year.
