$35.8 mln to be invested in preventing coastal erosion in southernmost Ca Mau proovince

Southernmost Ca Mau province will implement a project building sea dikes and embankment to prevent coastal erosion for high-risk areas with a total budget of nearly €32 million ($35.8 million).

Of the total, the French Development Agency (AFD) will provide a loan worth €19.17 million ($21.48 million)  for the infrastructure construction component; while the European Union (EU) will grant a non-refundable aid of €3.76 million ($4.21 million) for technical assistance through the Water and Natural Resource Management Fund (WARM Fund).The remaining will be mobilized from the provincial budget.

The Ministry of Finance and the AFD signed an agreement for the Western Sea Dike Construction Project's funding on August 22.

The project will be carried out from 2024 to 2028 with three main components, including the construction of a 19 km Western Sea Dike and the establishment of a coastal transportation route in the province to stimulate socio-economic development; construction of a 11 km wave - breaking embankment along the coast in Tran Van Thoi and Phu Tan districts; and development of 2,000 ha of protective forest along the coast and river mouths.
