With increasingly favorable air connections betweenVietnam and Australia, Central Vietnam is poised to become a sustainable eco-tourism destination, a beach resort, and a preferred spot for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and golf tourism for Australian tourists, said an official.

Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of Da Nang Department of Tourism, made these remarks at an event promoting the region’s tourism in Melbourne, Australia, as part of activities organized by the three Central coastal localities of Quang Nam, Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue to promote the local tourism in Melbourne and Sydney (Australia) from September 11-19.

Ms. Doan Thi Thanh Mai, the First Secretary of the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia, stated that the program to promote tourism in Central Vietnam is one of the practical activities to boost the bilateral  Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

One of the highlight activities was the Investment - Tourism Promotion seminar held on September 13 in Sydney, which gathered more than 50 guests, including representatives from airlines, investors, tourism businesses, service companies, and media agencies in Sydney, as well as 27 tourism units and businesses from the three Central coastal localities of Vietnam.

The tourism sectors of the three localities introduced destinations, tourism service products, tourism stimulus programs, events, and festivals; showcased impressive films of the “Wondrous Heritage Region”; organized a B2B networking space for businesses from both sides; and held a discussion on increasing tourist exchanges between Australia and Central Vietnam.

On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Vietnamese localities and the Western Sydney Tourism Business Association to enhance cooperation in promoting and exchanging tourists among the signatories.

During the visit, the working delegation met with Western Sydney International Airport to discuss plans for launching a direct flight route between Da Nang and Sydney. This would offer a significant opportunity for tourism businesses in both Australia and Vietnam to collaborate and exchange tourists.

Statistics indicate that in the first seven months of 2024, approximately 165,000 Australian tourists visited Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Nam, representing nearly 59% of all Australian tourists visiting Vietnam in the period. Compared to the peak year for international tourism, 2019, the number of Australian visitors to Central Vietnam during the first seven months of 2024 increased by nearly 120%.
