The government has decided to earmark an additional VND911 billion ($38.3 million) for the implementation of the Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line project.

Disbursement will be made under a decision signed recently by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai to adjust and supplement the central budget mid-term public investment plan in 2021-2025 for the Ministry of Transport.

The figure consists of more than VND223 billion ($9.4 million) in domestic capital and nearly VND688 billion ($29 million) in foreign capital.

Funded by Chinese official development assistance (ODA) and domestic counterpart funding, the total initial investment for the project was VND8.77 trillion ($368 million), which was then adjusted to VND18 trillion ($756 million) in 2017.

The Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line is 13 km in length. Running from Cat Linh in Ba Dinh district to Ha Dong district, the project has 12 stations and 13 trains. Travelling at a designed speed of 80 km/h, each train will have four carriages capable of carrying over 900 passengers.

The line started running in November 2021.
