Vietnam’s agricultural sector still targets posting export revenue of $55 billion this year despite the many difficulties, according to Deputy Minister of Agricultural and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien.

The sector saw positive growth in some areas in the first half of the year.

The agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector posted growth of 3.07 per cent, the Deputy Minister told a press briefing on July 3.

Production value growth stood at 3.1 per cent.

Export revenue of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products topped $24.59 billion, of which agricultural products earned $12.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12 per cent.

Mr. Tien said the export of fruit and vegetables earned revenue of $2.75 billion and is expected to reach over $5 billion for the year as a whole and $10 billion annually in the future.

In order to fulfill the export targets, Mr. Tien said it is important to enhance trade promotion activities and carry out measures to boost exports of key products that have prospects and the possibility of posting high export value, to make up for other products with low export value.
