Agro-forestry-seafood exports suffer serious decline

The export of agriculture, forestry, and seafood products fell 23 per cent year-on-year in January, to $3.7 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Farm produce posted turnover of $1.7 billion, down 13 per cent year-on-year; seafood $600 million, down 31 per cent; and wood and wooden products $1.1 billion, down 30 per cent.

Many products that posted strong growth in export revenue in 2022 saw falls in the opening month of the year.

Vietnam posted record seafood export revenue of $11 billion last year, up 23.8 per cent against 2021. But exports are now encountering difficulties and heading downwards.

Wood exports are in a similar situation. Global inflation since last September has impacted orders in the sector and made securing new orders problematic. Turnover in January fell 30 per cent year-on-year.
