Vietnam exported 37,400 tons of coffee in the first half of August, earning $110.8 million, down 23.3 per cent in volume but only 3.5 per cent in value year-on-year, according to the latest figures from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
As of August 15, the country had exported 1.54 million tons of coffee this year worth $2.81 billion, a fall of 20 per cent in volume but up nearly 5 per cent in value year-on-year.
Exports for the year as a whole are expected to reach 1.718 million tons worth $4.2 billion provided that export volumes over the remainder of the year are equal to those in the same period last year and the export price remains the same as in the first months of this year.
Vietnam’s coffee exports to Italy, the US, Japan, Russia, Algeria, the Netherlands, and Mexico have all reported rises in volumes this year over the same period last year.
Of note, the average export price reached a record high $2,828 per ton in July, up 5.4 per cent against June and 23.4 per cent against July 2022. Overall, the average export price in the first seven months of 2023 was $2,418 per ton, up 7.3 per cent year-on-year.
