Southern Binh Duong province plans to build a new river port in An Tay commune in Ben Cat city to serve freight transport and develop logistics services.
Covering nearly 100 ha on the banks of the Saigon River, the An Tay Port project will need estimated investment of nearly VND2.3 trillion ($97 million).
Once fully operational, the port is expected to become a trans-shipment center in the region, contributing to easing road traffic congestion and promoting socio-economic development.
It will serve transport services from Binh Duong to Cai Mep Port in nearby Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Cat Lai Port in Ho Chi Minh City.
Provincial authorities have asked the local Department of Planning and Investment to seek partners to build the project.
Construction is scheduled from 2023 to 2027.
The new port will have a designed capacity of 7 million tons of cargo a year and be able to accommodate container vessels of 3,000 tons.
