The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) has appointed a new Chairman, Mr. Dominik Meichle, Managing Director of Bosch Vietnam.
He succeeds Mr. Gabor Fluit, who led the chamber through significant membership growth and successful advocacy efforts. Mr. Fluit has departed to take on new responsibilities as Group CEO of De Heus Animal Nutrition.
Mr. Meichle, the youngest Managing Director in Bosch Vietnam's history, is poised to build upon EuroCham's 25-year legacy in the region. "I am excited about the opportunities this year presents," Mr. Meichle stated, acknowledging challenges but emphasizing the potential for "impactful collaboration and sustainable economic growth in Vietnam."
Outgoing Chairman Mr. Fluit praised his successor, expressing confidence that Mr. Meichle will further strengthen the "Team Europe-Vietnam partnership."
The 2024 board brings together a diverse group of European business leaders representing major sectors across Vietnam, ensuring continuity and fresh perspectives as the chamber advocates for a favorable investment climate.
Under Mr. Meichle's leadership, EuroCham is refining its agenda to intensify advocacy efforts and expand its ESG initiatives. This proactive approach is underscored by the chamber's plans to hold approximately 90 meetings with Vietnamese authorities and dispatch 200 letters this year, informed by insights from its annual Whitebook.
EuroCham will also widen its presence in Vietnam's provinces to enhance member engagement and identify new business opportunities.
Sustainability and Advocacy
Addressing a recent Vietnam Business Forum on green growth strategy, Mr. Meichle highlighted EuroCham's alignment with Vietnam's ambitious net-zero emissions goal by 2050. He emphasized the need for clear regulatory guidance to facilitate the government's green development agenda.
EuroCham is dedicating significant attention to ESG and sustainability. A specialized working group will spearhead efforts to raise awareness and understanding of key EU regulations like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
The group will foster collaboration among business associations and build capacity for both EuroCham members and Vietnamese companies.
