Ca Mau Airport in southernmost Ca Mau province will be upgraded to be able to cater to A320 and A321 aircraft by 2030, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The airport can currently only accommodate ATR 72 and similar aircraft.

Upgrades will be conducted under a proposal from provincial authorities earlier this year.

It will be based on a master plan for the aviation sector’s development to 2025 and vision to 2030.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is carrying out repairs of the runway and taxiways at the airport.

Under the upgrade plan, the airport will have a capacity of welcoming 1 million passengers a year by 2030 and 2 million by 2050.

It currently has an annual capacity of 200,000 passengers.
