With annual shrimp export revenue at over $1 billion, southernmost Ca Mau province has led the country in shrimp export over recent years, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai has said.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the Ca Mau Shrimp Festival on December 11, Deputy Prime Minister Khai said Vietnam has become the world’s second-largest shrimp exporter, with annual turnover of $3.6-4.3 billion.
Ca Mau contributes around $1 billion each year, or 28 per cent.
Its shrimp have been exported to over 60 countries and territories, with the US, Japan, China, and the EU being the leading markets.
Vietnam is one of the top five shrimp producers in the world. Ca Mau province alone accounts for 40 per cent of the country’s total shrimp area, with annual output standing at 250,000 tons.
Its shrimp export revenue this year is estimated at $1.2 billion.
