Cargo transport via seaports up 5% in 2023

Vietnam’s shipping fleet ranks third in performance in Southeast Asia.

The total volume of cargo transported through seaports in 2023 is estimated at 756.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5 per cent, the Vietnam Maritime Administration has reported.

Container cargo transported via seaports totaled 24.7 million TEUs, equal to the figure last year.

Meanwhile, the total number of passengers transported via seaports reached 7.04 million, up 17 per cent year-on-year.

As of December, 2023, Vietnam had 1,449 registered vessels with a total capacity of 13.7 million tons.

Vietnam’s shipping fleet has recently undergone an increase in its performance to rank third in Southeast Asia and 22nd in the world overall, according to the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
