Chan May Port in central Thua Thien-Hue province has received investment in infrastructure and specialized equipment to increase its capacity together with the application of preferential mechanisms and policies to attract more cargo containers, according to the Chan May Port JSC.
Its cargo loading and unloading capacity has increased by 40-50 per cent, helping save loading and unloading times.
The infrastructure network at the port has been basically completed, with a bonded warehouse on 2,500 sq m and a container terminal.
The second phase of the project to build a 750-meter breakwater at Chan May Port is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2024, helping increase capacity.
The first domestic container shipping route was launched at Chan May Port last December.
The port is capable of berthing cargo vessels of up to 70,000 tons, container ships of 4,000 TEUs, and international passenger cruises of 225,000 GT.
Chan May Port currently handles 4 million to 4.5 million tons of cargo annually. The figure is expected to rise to 20 million to 25 million tons by 2030.
