The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has adjusted the implementation timeframe for the city’s Metro Line No. 2, which connects Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Tham Luong Depot in District 12.
Under the decision, the project is to be completed and put into operation by 2030 instead of 2026, as previously scheduled.
As of August, site clearance for the project was 86 per cent completed.
Construction of the first contract package kicked off on June 22.
Running through Districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu, the line has a total length of 11.3 km, including a 2-km elevated section and a 9.3-km underground section. It has eleven stations, including nine underground, one elevated, and one depot.
The project is estimated to cost VND47.9 trillion ($2.02 billion), sourced from official development assistance (ODA) funds and reciprocal capital from the city.
