Construction begins on section of Mekong Delta expressway

$1.84 billion, 188-km-long expressway to run through four centrally-run localities in the Delta.

Construction of a section from Bidding Package No. 2 of Component Project 3 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway project got underway on November 29.

Component Project 3 was divided into two bidding packages, with Bidding Package No. 1 conducted since June.

Under Component Project 3, with investment capital estimated at VND9.6 trillion ($396 million), the 36.9-km-long section runs through Hau Giang province as part of the projected expressway that links four centrally-run localities in the Mekong Delta, including Can Tho city and the provinces of Hau Giang, Soc Trang and An Giang.

Total investment capital for the expressway, which stretches more than 188 km, is estimated at VND47.6 trillion ($1.84 billion).

In the first phase, which kicked off in June, the expressway has four lanes, with a roadbed width of 17 meters. Upon completion, it will have six lanes and a roadbed width of 32 meters.

Construction of the expressway is expected to be completed in 2027.
